OK... I went and bought a new laptop... well, not exactly a laptop... I got a Compaq Tablet PC (TC1100). Now, before you go asking, "Why in the world would you take a step down from your current laptop to buy that?", I have actually been eyeballing a Tablet PC for a long time. I owned (a LONG TIME AGO) a Dauphin years ago (back in the early 1990's), and loved it then. That unit wasn't anywhere near a practical for use as the newer Tablet PC's. And yes, the TC1100 has been around for a little more than a year now. But, although it is actually SLOWER than my n800c, this unit has the updated Intel 733 chipset in it, has a lot of features I have been looking for in a Tablet PC, certainly will work for me in taking notes for school, and hopefully will get me through my P.A. program (whichever one I end up in). Yes, I did get the accidental damage protection!
