Today I did something I haven't done in over 20 years. I went down a waterslide. I know it doesn't seem like much, but it was a matter of conquering a major fear that I have had for a long time. I used to love waterslides. Really. I don't know why I began to fear them, perhaps due to my weight, I don't know. But today, I went on one of the waterslides at Golfland Sunsplash out here in Roseville. I am going back!

WOOT! Today is THE DAY. The AAA All Star Game between the PCL and IL starts at 7:05 tonight!

Tuesday, July 12, 2005

Yippee!!! I have been waiting all season to attend the AAA Minor League All-Star game. That comes tomorrow at Raley Field, home of the Rivercats, here in the Sacramento area. Now, normally, I would work it, but I decided to treat myself. This is a once-in-30-year event. Yep, 30 YEARS. And I certainly can't afford to go to tonight's MLB All-Star game (Maybe in the future). Raley Field is an absolutely beautiful baseball park, as you have seen by pictures I have posted in the past. It looks even better due to the All-Star game coming tomorrow. New sod, everything cleaned and shined... Oh, here is the view from the area where my seats are going to be:

For those who want glimpses of the park, go here: http://images.ibsys.com/sac/images/weather/auto/raleyfieldcam_640x480.jpg. This webcam is courtesy KCRA. The view changes a little from time to time. Currently, the view is to center and right field.

If you want to watch the game, it will be carried by ESPN2 at 7:00PM PDT, as well as KTKZ 1380 AM in Sacramento. Click here to listen to the game: http://www.kcee.fm/ads/ktkz1.htm (I hope it will work... I will be there with my radio, not my PC).

As quick as I am to complain about something, I can be just as quick to compliment something. Today is one of those days. I went to Lenscrafters the other day, to get my glasses repaired. I managed to scratch the living crap out of my left lens while I was in Las Vegas last week. How? I have no idea. But I couldn't use my glasses the way they were. So, after $140, and two hours (Actually overnight, as I couldn't get back there by the end of the day), I had a new pair of lenses in my wonderful Flexon frames.

Except there was one problem... the antireflective coating wasn't on them. When I mentioned it, the manager told me I never had bought it. Yes, I had, I explained. I paid extra for it. Nope. She showed me the screen. No antireflective lenses. I could have them remade for an extra $37.50 (Half-price, just like the replacement lenses). Option good for 30 days. Um, I'll think about it... And I headed home.

On my way home, I had a thought... My lenses were antireflective before! I was certain of it. I called back and spoke with the manager who I was dealing with. "Do you still have my old lenses?" Yes. "Are those antireflective?" A pause. Yes, they are, she tells me. OK... "So how could I have antireflective lenses then, and not now?" She looked a bunch of stuff up, and had no explanation. No problem, she says. Come on back in, and we will make them for you, no charge. I couldn't yesterday, so I told her I would be back around 1:30pm today.

So, I went back in today, and had them remade. No charge, and these have the antireflective coating. Yeah! Yippee! I was very thankful, but still wanted to know what happened. It was a paperwork error. So, even though technically, Lenscrafters didn't have to remake my lenses with the antireflective coating, they chose to make a customer happy. This is the type of business I applaud.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH LENSCRAFTERS!!!

Wow! This 4th of July weekend was nice! I still had to work, of course, but it was really a good weekend. I got to see fireworks a few times at Raley Field, and at other locations as well! The Sacramento Philharmonic Orchestra was absolutely wonderful to listen to. Yes, it was HOT, but once the sun went down, the night was nice. Once the show was over, we fired off our own fireworks at home, ala 11:00 at night.
