No apparent fairness or justice

I never got a followup by the CHP due to my accident. So, I called today, nearly 1 MONTH since the accident. They have gotten the report done, and couldn't tell me if they were going after the driver that slammed into me. They told me to call the D.A. here in Sacramento County, that they would have more information. Yeah... I called. THERE IS NO RECORD OF A REPORT BEING SENT OVER BY THE CHP. Wonderful. I got bounced from person to person, only to get bounced back to the CHP, where I got voicemail.

I get the distinct opinion that the CHP does not intend to follow up on this accident. They have the name of the person who hit me. They have her address. They have her car. They have a description that should clinch who hit me (She is pregnant). Why haven't they arrested her? While it wasn't severe, I was hurt in the accident. My car has severe damage. I have been VERY inconvenienced by this as well, having to pay airfare to get to a job interview in southern California I was planning on driving to. I had to rent a car to see my grandson born in Salt Lake City. (The cost is the driving force on rental vs airfare for me). I have expenses that I have had as a direct result of this unlicensed and uninsured driver hitting me and then leaving the scene of the accident.

I am so disgusted about this.

Anyone care to comment? Or help?

My understanding is they don't go after accident-causing drivers unless someone is very seriously injured / killed or there is reason to think that it was a DUI.

Inconvenience and having to spend $ isn't reason enough. I ought to know, I had to spend some $800 in rental car fees while my car was in the shop after being rear-ended by a hit and run driver a couple years ago.

It's possible you could sue her in civil court for damages but you'd want to talk that option over with your insurance company.

Except that, as I stated, she was unlicensed, uninsured, and fled the scene of an accident. That is a crime here in CA, and she should be prosecuted for that.
