Do unto others
Twice this week, I have had the opportunity to return property to someone that was lost or stolen.
The first occurred on Monday. I was bicycling to the bus stop and noticed a lot of paperwork in the street. I waited for the traffic to stop, and pulled some of it out of the street. They were payroll and personnel records. Thankfully, there was a contact number on one of the sheets and I called. The woman called me back, at first confused about how these records could have been in the street. It turns out an employee's car had been stolen over the weekend, and the thieves dumped the paperwork in the street. So,she picked up the paperwork from me.
Yesterday, I found a woman's journal at the light rail station when I was waiting for the train. Yes, I read some of it (Not all!), to see if there was something that would identify the owner. While she didn't have her name in it, her last entry made mention of someone, whose phone number was on a sticky note in the front cover. One phone call to him explaining who I was and what I found, and she called me back. This morning, she stopped by my work very relieved to get her journal back.

Doesn't it feel good to help someone else. I can only hope that most people would have done the same but unfortunately in our society, most probably would have walked by those papers in the street.
