In a wonderful response to the accusations against one doctor and two nurses who are facing murder charges for staying with their patients in New Orleans, this nurse provides incredible insight into the situation. I strongly recommend you read this: http://projectdisaster.com/?p=743

Yeast Rings?

I was at Walmart today, picking up some groceries, and found this in the store.

OK... Hints:

1. It is in the bakery section
2. It is a food people eat (some eat a lot of them)
3. The stigma of police eating them is out there
4. They are high calorie items

I pointed this out to the management at this Walmart. It appears it is a language problem (Meaning: Someone who doesn't speak English as a native language made the sign). Their response initially was, "We are selling WHAT?" when I showed them the first picture. They laughed when they saw the second picture, but did state they would "fix it".

Reading this? Thank the IBM PC

The IBM PC turns 25 today. On August 12, 1981, the world came to know the IBM PC, a new platform computer that was running a new operating system called PC-DOS. IBM had licensed this new operating system from a young upstart by the name of Bill Gates. The rest is computing history.

Here's some interesting facts:

Base price: $2880
64 Kilobytes of RAM (Not megabytes!)
160 Kilobyte 5.25" floppy disk drive (Just one of these)
Processor: 8088, running at a whopping 4.77 Mhz

Trivia Time!

Back in the early 1980's, I owned an 8088 based computer running CP/M. The ASCII monitor for this kluge (That I still remember fondly - The Jade Piggy, made by Jade Computers in Lawndale, CA) was a Soroc IQ 120. This sucker weighed A LOT. But it worked wonderfully for its time.

Take a look at the logo above. The name SOROC was derived from a beer - Yep, COORS! And the image next to the name is a can top looking down from the top. Yeah, a good old pull-tab poptop for those of you who remember them!

World Trade Center (Movie)

GO

Seriously. Go see it. It will leave you... Stunned. It is worth it. Don't take little kids; this is definitely a teen on up movie. There is one scene in particular that will leave you in "Wow" mode for a few seconds.

I lost 6 friends in those attacks. If I felt that this movie in any way was disrespectful to them, I would never recommend you to see it. Oliver Stone did a magnificent job in showing these two men, the view from their perspective before and after the collapse, and their incredible rescue.

Raley Field just before the soccer games

I took this shot just before the soccer game last Sunday. I love baseball, and even though I know that this was a good moneymaker for the park, it just hurt to see this wonderful field turned into a soccer field. Happily, the field has been restored to its glory already.

For reference, here is a shot I took last season of the field:
